Talks of the need for a new schoolhouse were mustering in early 1900. County Superintendent M. Lavinia Sterrett announced an auction on October 10, 1903 to sell the District 57 schoolhouse. Half of the proceeds from the auction were to go to the Union School District No. 1. This was presumably to fund the building of a new schoolhouse for District 1. the following year.

Arrangments for the new schoolhouse began in February by the community. Lumber for the brand new Union School District No. 1 was headed out to the site in Jetmore in the summer of 1904.

The Union School District No. 1 was no different than many rural farm schools. A majority of the boys helped out on their farms during the summer and fall months. In 1911 when most other schools had already opened up for their winter work Union School had not. They were going to start later than intended to allow for the boys to put the feed up and all start at once.

The school was big on preaching as well, Rev. Millen had been preaching there twice a month over the summer of that year. Revival meetings were also held occasionally by Rev Spence in 1906. Later Reverend Eden and his wife and Reverend Perdue preached and held Sunday school there.

Throughout the late 19-teens, the enrollment of the school hovered around 20. This was quite a bit of students to have in a small one-room school house. Some of the teachers of the school included: Beula Courtney 1920-21, Arch Bickel 1922, and Emily Frusher 1924.

One-room schoolhouses were basically nonexistent-functioning facilities by the 1960s. While the exact date of when this one ceased being used, the neglect of the building done by mother nature gives a good idea.
