All Saints Catholic Church of Liberty - The history of the All Saints Catholic Church in Liberty, Kansas dates back to the 1880s when the church was first organized. Services were held in members' houses, most of the time in the house of Billy Maher. The first church building was built in 1888 but locals can not remember where it stood. It was a small frame church and by 1928 a new church was needed for the growing congregation. Chamness School - When it was built in 1867-68 it was actually known as the Welsh School. The Welsh school began to serve the community after students had been attending a subscription school in the log church that served residents of the area. In desperate need of a building, the land was donated by the Chamness family to build the small stone schoolhouse was built. Allen County Jail - Through the 1860s, Allen County struggled over their lack of a jail, proclaiming criminals looked at the Allen County judicial system as a laughing stock and encouraged them to commit crimes. Criminals with serious charges were taken to Franklin County's jail in Ottawa, and cost $72 per full-week trip for meals, lodging, and horse hire. There was no other incarceration option for non-violent criminals such as a calaboose nearby. Cedar Point School - In 1918 a devastating fire completely destroyed the Cedar Point School, quickly classes were moved to Principal Mrs. Ada Lake’s home. Miss Myrtle Self and Miss Henry Young held their classes in the Presbyterian church. Within a few months, a new school was underway, the contract was awarded to J. L. Zollars to excavate the grounds. Others involved in the construction were Missouri Valley Furniture Co. for the milling, Patent Vulcanite Roofing Co, Southwestern Electric Co., Cement Stone & Supply Co. of Wichita, and the Lumberman’s Supply Co. S.S. Voigt of Wichita was the architect and made a wonderful brick school for the small town... Florence Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Depot -In the early months of the year in 1904, the flourishing town of Florence was alarmed by smoke billowing from the local depot. A town put on the map by the railroad, worry ensued. A spark from a passing passenger train had caught the building on fire, burning it entirely to the ground. Within days the town had already started talking about the new depot that would need to be built in replace of the old one. A contract was given to W.R.
