Not much is known about the Winchester jail other than it was moved and restored at the Old Jefferson Town in 1977. Old Jefferson Town contains many recreations and moved historic buildings to send you back into the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The jail was often used for voting, city hall meetings, and other town events. In my research of these small jails, this isn’t very common to use a jail as a place of community. But it could have also doubled as a city hall. In the Spring of 1949, the jail hosted the Jefferson Township meeting.
