The Aurora Jail was constructed in 1889 two blocks South of the location it currently sits at. It is constructed of stones rather than concrete or steel like most other tiny jails.
At some point the jail was deconstructed and moved to its current location and carefully put back together, perfectly preserving it. Its not often that we get to see these jails taken care of anymore. Most that I come across are covered in brush and trees or the cracks in the concrete are far too big to be easily repaired. It serves as a perfect example that if we don’t start saving these jails now, we will have little to no remaining examples of them.
